Newtyle Facts

NEWTYLE: Location. Birnam, Middle Tay.

The Newtyle beat comprises of classic left bank fly water with easy wading in most pools (where necessary). The deeper right bank has both fly water and areas for spinning in certain water conditions. Throughout the beat there are 16 named pools. Every pool on the beat is capable of producing salmon. Wildlife can be seen regularly on Newtyle.

Newtyle fishes well in most water heights with the fly, but harling and spinning are also effective in higher water.

For 2010 Newtyle has reduced the maximum number of rods that previously fished the beat. It fishes a maximum of 6-8 daily let rods, plus 2 house rods which are rarely used.

From 15th January- 28th February there will be a maximum of 8 daily let rods + 2 occasional house rods.

From the 1st March - 15th October a maximum of 6 rods will be available for booking + 2 occasional house rods. If all 6 rods are booked by a single party then the house rods will NOT be fished.

The daily let rods will rotate between the various pools. Rotation will be decided by the Head Ghillie, Andy Gunn.

Please note that a ghillie will be present each day from 8:30am to 5:30pm to offer basic beat advice but this service is not as comprehensive as having a dedicated personal ghillie with use of a boat for the day as described below. This basic gillie service is included in all of our rod prices.

A dedicated personal ghillie with a boat is available for an additional £100 per day. This daily charge can cover either a single rod or a larger party booking (subject to availability). Please contact Andy to arrange.

If you're looking for a very picturesque middle Tay salmon fishing beat with high customer service levels and always the chance of a salmon on the fly then Newtyle is it.

Exclusive use of the beat for a maximum of 12 rods is obtainable (subject to availability).
